Advantages Of Fitness

I am often asked to define physical fitness and the answer I give is that physical fitness comprises of Four basic parts. These are cardio fitness and endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility.

Cardiovascular fitness and endurance

This is the ability to deliver much-needed oxygen and beneficial nutrients to body tissues and remove waste over sustained periods of time. This can be achieved by long runs, jogging and swims which help to accomplish this.

Muscular strength.

This is the force your muscles can exert and their ability to keep moving without becoming exhausted. For example your upper body strength can be measured by various weight lifting exercise with heavy weights.

Muscular Endurance

This is the ability of a muscle or a group of muscles, to sustain repeated contractions and continually applying force against a fixed object. For example push-ups are often used to test the endurance of a person’s arms and shoulder muscles.

Flexibility

This is the ability to move joints and use your muscles through their full range of motion. As an example, the sitting and reaching test is when you sit on the floor or with your legs outstretched and you reach your toes with your fingertips. This is a good indication of the flexibility of your lower back and your hamstring muscles which are located at the back of your upper legs and an indication to how limber or supple you are.

Body composition is also an important consideration and component of on physical fitness. This refers to the way that your body composition is made up. Here we are looking in terms of lean body mass and fat mass. An optimal ratio of fat to lean mass indicates your measure of physical fitness and the right types of exercises will help you decrease body fat and increase or steadily maintained muscle mass.
